On this route, you can enjoy the panoramic view that some natural viewpoints provide over the city of Nova Sintra. In “João Da Nole” you can find a village with some well-appointed houses and others not so much. In the middle of this village, you continue up a narrow dirt track towards Fontaínhas, which is the highest point on the island of Brava with 976 meters of altitude. When walking on this trail to the peak of Fontaínhas, the path is made in a few meters of cobblestone and mostly dirt, but the feeling of tranquility, the view of the landscapes and the contact with nature, not to mention that the scenery natural is perfect for lovers of hiking or trekking, it makes the difficulties of the path lose their prominence. From the peak of Fontaínhas, if the fog that you can see touching the ground gives a truce, you can see the island in its fullness. Then there are some trails that connect you with the town of Mato where you go down to Cova de Joana, Cova Rodela towards Nova Sintra by car (optional).

Points of interest

natural value

Fontaínhas has the particularity of being a natural reserve on the island of Brava, with a very rich species of endemic plants. The fog that is felt there is impressive, the contrast in times of drought between the green and wet dawns letting drops of water overflow and the dry lands around is a phenomenon to take into account, the charm of the passages between dawn and the panoramic views of the successive sections of the coast alone ensure the slow and fascinating recognition of its beauty.
