The route starts in Nova Sintra and continues through the town of “João Da Nole” on a paved climb of approximately 200m in zigzag form. On this route, you can enjoy the panoramic view that some natural viewpoints provide over the city of Nova Sintra. In “João Da Nole” you can find a village with some well-appointed houses and others not so much. Then it goes to the town of “Mato Grande” on a road, this is optional, since there are some trails that are easier to access. Crossing the village in the area, you will come across a sign indicating the beginning of the road to “Aguada”. From there, you start to descend along a trail, sometimes with old cobblestones, sometimes not, for about 20 minutes to the town of Baleia, which is a quiet area of the island, Alhais the only one that is still populated, but jammed due to the conditions of the path and the non-existence of a road. From Baleia onwards, it starts to descend along trails with some difficulty, but you can enjoy a little of the view of the sea and the mountain ranges ahead. As you descend, you begin to notice some trails on the slopes that join in a stream that flows into the sea. Approaching the bottom, on a plain above the stream with plenty of sand, you can see the imposing two-story house and its adjacent compartments, of the late and unforgettable poet, writer Eugénio de Paula Tavares. A place that seems to have stopped in time and that shows signs that it was once agricultural with lots of water and ideal to take refuge from everything and everyone just a few meters from Praia d’aguada. Hence, we give every reason why the unsuccessful man found his source of inspiration there. Remembering that this is the longest side road on the island.
